For the 5th season, Petty International Raceway honoured racing legend Caleb Dunn with the Caleb Dunn Memorial Mid Season Championships on Saturday night. Six divisions were in attendance to put on a wild thrill show for the fans.

First off was the Leisure Days RV Bandoleros who were back in action. Following a win at the Atlanta Motor Speedway just a few short weeks ago, Austin MacDonald went back to victory lane in the King Freight Lines #27 as the checkers flew. Sam Rogers brought his Farrell's Excavating #12 to 2nd after a tough battle with #44 Nathan Blackburn of Timberlea.

Colton Noble, driving for Josh Collins and Koven Lewis rounded out the top 5. Lewis and Blackburn were heat winners earlier in the evening.

For the Mister Transmission Mini Stock division, side by side racing was the name of the game. For a while leading up to the checkers, it looked as if JR Lawson and Tim Webster would end in a photo finish, Talladega style, but lapped traffic with a few laps remaining allowed Lawson to slip away. Webster then fell into the clutches of Chris Garnett, driving the former Brad Daley #66. Garnett would settle for 3rd by inches with Webster getting the upper hand.

Mike Edwards and Michael Savoie finished off the top 5.

In the always exciting Women On Wheels Division, it was mother and daughter going 1-2 at the end of 15 laps. Paula Evans capitalized on a spin on the backstretch involving defending champion Brenda Shortell and Ellen Smith. Both would be sent to the rear allowing Ashley Campbell to slide into the runner up position. Shortell would make her way back to 3rd, but ran out of laps to do any better.

Lauralee Blackburn finished 4th and Amanda Llewellyn, in her first event, ended up 5th.

The Westwood Estates Street Stock Division went 50 laps instead of their usual 30 as part of the Triple Crown this season. For James Matchett, this was no issue. The Miramichi driver would wheel the Tom Nicholls owned #1 to a dominant victory over a full field. Nick Cudmore started in the final row and worked his way solidly into a 2nd place finish. Matt Crocker, a Speedway 660 regular would cross under the line 3rd after starting shotgun on the grid, but tech would dictate that Mike Duskey would take home the 3rd place money and hardware. *Updated Aug 16 - 87 Nick Cudmore credited with win after 1 James Matchett fails to pass tech.

Logan Power and Michael Cormier, two rookies to the division, would end up finishing 4th and 5th.

The Atlantic Modified Tour once again visited the high banks of Petty International Raceway for a 35 lap affair. The event would go caution free as Mike Raeburn dominated from the get-go and checked off another victory at the track. Cody Price would return after more than a year away from the drivers seat and finish a strong 2nd. Doug Matchett would end up 3rd with Chris Wilson and Paul Costain, who won on opening day, would finish 5th.

The final division to run was the Limited Late Model class going 100 laps. For Alexandra O'Blenis, it was an attempt to go two-for-two in the late summer shootout. Kenny Mackenzie Jr would have something to say about that. Mackenzie would wrestle the lead away before halfway and hold on to it all the way to the checkers.

It is Mackenzie's third win of the season and 4th overall in the division. O'Blenis came home 2nd with Jordan Veinotte bringing the PPM/Veinotte's Truck and Auto Ford home in the final podium spot. Neal Crawford put up another strong run to finish 4th and Justin Beers in his rookie season finished 5th.

The next event for Petty International Raceway is the 53rd Jones Auto Body Riverglade International. Last Season, Luc Bourgeois cruised to victory in the prestigious event. We expect to see incredible racing as we have all season. The action gets underway on Friday August 25 at 7:30pm.
